IGNITE (Girls Group) and BITE (Boys Group) December Presentations
On December 16th, we (IGNITE) had our first guest speaker presentations. We had five guest speakers. It was so inspirational. These speakers came in to our class to show us no matter what background you come from, you can still succeed and become successful.
Our fist speaker, Justin Jimicum Sr. was from the Tulalip Tribe’s technology department. Our second speakers were from workforce training of Snohomish County- Mr. Curtis Takahashi & Mrs. Sam Samano. A Snohomish County database programmer also came, Anne Lord. Wendy Messarina from Marysville School District Spanish Liaison spoke about her business and experience with technology as a flight attendant. All of these speakers were a hit. Everyone was focused and paying attention. Our students described the meeting as “inspirational and motivating.” We would like to thank our speakers for making a difference with our girls and boys at Marysville Mountain View High School. (Write up by student leaders Ruhi and Kali)
Here are some of the comments we received from our students:
- I liked how they told about themselves and about how they got into the field.
- It helps to hear from a lot of different people.
- They say things that are true and not fake.
- How the first speaker (Justin) was really cool and detailed.
- They explained their job well.
- How they gave me more info on everything in technology.
- The ability to learn a lot about the fields of technology.
- I thought it was pretty cool when Anna came in and talked about how she was a Ferrier for a while but later she decided to try out for technical stuff and found that she was practically made for it.
- This was very interesting for me.
- It was cool to see that these people are not much different from us.
- The speakers were very down to earth.
- Listening to how the speakers said how they got to their jobs and how they did through high school and other stuff.
- Justin Jimicum Sr. did a great job and I learned information that I have never heard or have been taught before.
- How I learned a lot about how most computer things work.
- Justin Jimicum Sr. really made me want to get a technical job because he made it sound really fun!
- The speakers are very nice and sweet.
- The speakers didn’t just give us a memorized speech it was nice. They made the environment kind of friendly so we actually wanted to ask questions and know more about it.
- They are real stories and real people giving and sharing.
- I like how nice the speakers are.
Here are some pictures that we took during our presentations.
Our first presentation was a success! Thanks again to Snohomish County, Tulalip Tribes and Marysville School District for participating and taking the time to share with our students. Our vocational director was able to attend and has seen the “fire” that was ignited in the eyes of our students and plans to begin Ignite district wide. It was truly a powerful meeting for all.
Also, a special thank you to our student leaders for doing the write up and T-shirt designs.
Sincerely,
Marianne Pohl, Ignite Advisor
